I'm trying to identify an album that came out around 1998-2005, by a French or perhaps French-Canadian woman. I would describe the genre as "Lounge" or "Jazz".
The singing was unconventional - it was kind of whispering, hoarse, lusty, and very close to the microphone. It reminded me of "Je T'aime (Moi Non Plus)"
I think that the hit from the album started with either the sound of high heels clicking on the floor, or someone snapping their fingers.
It would have gotten airplay on listener-supported and university radio stations. I heard it being used as Muzak in Chapters, Canada's large bookstore chain at the time.
