I can’t work out the primary instrument(s) that are carrying the melody/main theme from JOHN WILLIAMS Leaving Hogwarts from the first Harry Potter film.

Its a lovely sweet theme that starts at 1:28 and ends at 1:36. There are other embellishments like a harp in the background and a Glockenspiel but is that sound at 1:28 a French Horn? I’m not sure it is?

The main melody at 1:28 is played on four unison horns doubled an octave higher by the clarinets and oboes and two octaves higher by the glockenspiel. The embellishments in the background are harp, celesta and piano. Plus there are trombones, tuba and low strings holding chords. At 1:35 the melody is taken over by trumpets, horns and strings.

  • As always, thanks, what do you mean 4 / 6? If you could elaborate on the exact instrument I would be grateful. – cmp Oct 30 '20 at 22:31
