There was an alt rock video I saw on MTV in the 90's. All I really remember is a guy sitting or crouched in the corner of a dark trashed room and the walls end up on fire, and I remember it was sad.

I know it's a long shot but any help would be appreciated. This video has haunted me for years but I can't quite remember it (much like Solitude Auternus's song "Midnight Dreams" did for 14 years before someone helped me figure it out).

  • It could be REM losing my religion or a bush song – user1088 Sep 14 '15 at 1:54

Your description seems to be a good match for 90's era hard rock band Staind's 2001 hit, "It's Been Awhile".

To quote the Wikipedia article on the song

The music video begins with Aaron Lewis going through some old photographs, one of which happens to be the picture of his wife. The video then switches between him writing a letter to his wife and the band performing casually in a room full of candles. There are brief shots of Aaron alone in the streets and looking at himself in the mirror while having second thoughts. Throughout the video, Aaron is seen continuously smoking cigarettes. At the end of the video, one of those cigarettes falls onto the floor and burns down his apartment.

  • @Bebs - Please see this meta discussion: musicfans.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/283/… . Also this one as well: musicfans.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/285/… – Chris Sunami Jul 17 '17 at 12:40
  • Chris, I agree with you, but once it was agreed the answer was deleted by mistake, shouldn't we undelete the answer. To me there is no reason to delete an answer because it is too short, on can downvote or at least convert it to a comment, but deleted ?! I still don't see why. But I suppose, in Music Fans SE, Bosses have to show their power once in a while. – Bebs Jul 17 '17 at 13:08
  • @Bebs These were all deleted over a year ago, prior to that discussion --I think the mods have had a lighter touch since then. I also think it's an overreach to hint that this was an abuse of power, the answers as they stood were pretty poor. At any rate, I pointed out those meta threads not to indicate this is a settled issue, but to suggest that there would be the best place to continue the discussion about it. – Chris Sunami Jul 17 '17 at 13:39

Could this be Ricky Martin's "Private Emotion" (1999)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-m9fn1yeEI . The video is a time-reversed video that starts with a trashed hotel room and runs backwards to when the room is on fire.

No, I checked it out just to make sure but no it wasn't that song or video. It would have been some sort of rock, grunge,or metal. It was really the only music I was into back then. Thank you though, I do appreciate it. – charlie Sep 11 '15 at 19:49

My first thought when you said this was a little bit newer than the 90's (2007)...check out One Republic's "Stop and Stare". This video/song stuck with me-even though I don't have any One Republic records-because it was a strong enough video I remembered it. It has fire in the end, and it is a slower/sadder kind of song. I'll be curious to know.
