In Fatboy Slim’s Right Here, Right Now, the lyrics consist of repetitions of two lines:

  • "Right here, right now"
  • "Waking up to find your love’s not real" ¹

The first line comes from the movie Strange Days, but where is the second line from?

I thought it might be another line from Strange Days, but I couldn’t find it there. The Wikipedia article doesn’t say something about this line. WhoSampled doesn’t seem to answer it (it’s not from James Gang’s Ashes, the Rain and I).

¹ I’m trusting various lyrics sites here, as I find this line hard to hear.

I don't think it's "Waking up to find your love's not real", it sounds like a chop up of a vocal phrase that's saying something totally different. Happy to be proved wrong!

I also don't think it says that (and am very curious to find out exactly what it says).

  • It sounds like "I'm not the guy that looked like him" to me.

  • a lot of sample-heavy artists of the day went out of their way to obscure their samples, following the lawsuit against biz markie in 1991 and the increasing price of licenses (this practice has since become uncommon as ai copyright identification has become more powerful). tracking down this (or any other 1990s/2000s) sample might be an extremely difficult task.
