I heard a song in yoga class that I enjoyed very much but never had a chance to ask what is was. It's in f minor and has a strong beat. The tempo, key, and feel is quite reminiscent of "Staying Alive" and "Another one Bites the Dust". The words "let it shine" are repeated multiple times consecutively, in several locations. Could anybody name the song? Thanks :)

  • This it? m.youtube.com/watch?v=5tyWxLjGgg0 – RedCaio Feb 14 '16 at 10:01
  • Unfortunately that's a very common lyric, largely from being a part of the classic spiritual "This Little Light of Mine." Assuming it wasn't a version of that song, can you remember any other lyrics? Also, do you have a guess about when the song came out? The songs you referenced are 70's era disco/funk but there's been a revival of that sound recently. I do feel like there might have been a recently song with that refrain, but I can't remember enough to track it down. – Chris Sunami Feb 15 '16 at 17:33
  • @RedCaio sorry, that's not it – Andrew Guo Feb 16 '16 at 19:49
  • @ChrisSunami I don't think it's a revival but I'm not quite sure. I don't remember any other lyrics. Just the key and feel of it. – Andrew Guo Feb 16 '16 at 19:51
  • @AndrewGuo can you tell us anything more about the song? Was there a lead singer? If so, were they male or female, or were there multiple leader singers? – Joe Kennedy Feb 18 '16 at 15:36

I have a couple of guesses, though I'm not sure if any of them are correct since a little more detail might be necessary to answer the question with confidence.

  • "Let It Shine" by Santana
  • "Let It Shine" by Al Green
  • "Let It Shine" by The Hochers
  • unfortunately, none of those songs are correct. Keep in mind, the song I'm looking for is in f minor (same key as another one bites the dust and staying alive) – Andrew Guo Mar 31 '16 at 1:17

Take That : "Let it Shine" ??

It's in a minor key, has a strong beat, and while it isn't exactly 70's disco, it has some of that same sound. And it repeats "let it shine" over and over.

"So come on
See the light on your face
Let it shine
Just let it shine
Let it shine."
  • Was searching for the same thing, Take That - Shine was the one I was searching for. Thanks ! – user2902 Sep 12 '16 at 17:03

Perhaps it's "Age of Aquarius" by The 5th Dimension: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjxSCAalsBE

The latter half of the song, they repeat "Let the sunshine; let the sunshine in; the sunshine in..."

Turn On Your Lovelight has the same refrain.. Not sure I would expect it in a yoga class, but hey, you never can tell ;-)

I guess it is not this song, but by your description, "Stayin' alive" and "Another one bites the dust", this might seem the song: "Shine a little love", from Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). It has a disco tempo and chorus, as in "Stayin' Alive", also high pitched harmonies as in "Stayin' Alive", and a clear bass line, as in "Another one bites the dust". It begins somehow slow. However, I don't see it being played in a yoga class.
