This past weekend I heard a song from a car stopped at a light. These are the details I was able to discern, as well as I can remember them.
The main section I heard featured:
- A repeated rhythm line, similar to the famous intro to "Be my Baby" except with the bass drum riff repeated twice before the snare strike, which itself was replaced with a vocal "hah!" sound.
- Male voices holding a long chord over the rhythm ("Ah" or "Ooh" syllable).
- The chord progression was, I think, I, vi, I, vi (same as beginning of Hallelujah). Each chord was held for one complete repetition of the rhythmic figure (so, longer than Hallelujah).
After that, it went into a vocal section. I couldn't make out any lyrics, but it had a melodic line similar the verse that starts this song.
If I had to guess, I'd say it was a recent song, pop but not mainstream.
