I am trying to track down an album from my music classes from roughly 25 years ago. Our music teacher would play samples of powerful songs/albums that we could gleam inspiration from. Sadly, my searches over the last 5 to 6 years have come up empty handed. Fortunately I stumbled upon this Exchange and figured I would try my luck.

My memory is rusty but here is what I remember of the album/songs.

  1. It was produced in or before 1992 but most likely not before 1970.
  2. The music was produced with a large number and variety of instruments.
  3. Definitely had a classic rock and/or hard rock score leaning somewhat into metal.
  4. It had a similar flair as a Broadway musical and may have been a musical.
  5. I remember the lead singer(s) being predominantly male.
  6. One of the most familiar songs I think was referring to a battle. I can not remember but it may have been related to Jesus overcoming something or maybe a David vs Goliath. I keep thinking there was something related to a lion in this song as well. The lead singer of this particular song was male.
  7. It may have been a Christian-music-type production.
  8. Definitely was not Jesus Christ Superstar even though it would seem to fit the genre and time frame.
  9. I think of this album when listening to Trans-Siberian Orchestra but I remember the album I'm looking for having more of a story-telling vibe.

I know that is very little to go on but I am happy to answer any questions and I will try to remember more and add it here.

Thank you all for your comments! I am continuing my search and checking all suggestions!

Making a listing of bands/albums it is not.

Alan Parsons Project, "Godspell", "Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat".

"It may have been a Christian-music-type production." If it was, then adding the 'circumstances' might help. If US, what region, 'religious sub-set' etc, as a lot of that type of music is really not known outside those circles. – Tetsujin Jan 4 '17 at 9:18
  • Perhaps something from the Alan Parsons Project? – J. Lew Jan 5 '17 at 5:35

I was thinking "Jesus Christ Superstar" from about 4 onwards, and then I got to 8. Is there anything else you remember from the album, like a lyric, a name, or anything like that? – Joe Kennedy Jan 5 '17 at 15:49
  • Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds matches 1-6 or so. – DaveP Jan 11 '17 at 18:24

The first thing I thought of when you were describing this was "The Champion" by Carmen.

This 1985 hit is epic rock with a Christian message, and a musical-like feel. It describes a battle between Jesus and Lucifer in a storytelling style.

Is it potentially Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat?

Right timeframe, genre (musical) and religious subject, by "Jesus Christ Superstar" composer Andrew Lloyd Weber.

  • I wish it was! I have listened to every track of that musical. Good idea though! Still looking.... – Grimdari Oct 17 '17 at 21:59

I found the following on YouTube:

Daniel and the Lion's Den

a 1971 Christian musical comedy about the dangers of drugs.

There's also a David and Goliath musical, but it looks to be far too recent.

  • Both good tries!! I listened to both and neither are the song. Great tries though, thank you!! – Grimdari Oct 20 '17 at 11:54
