A friend attributed this quote to a famous rock and roll musician regarding shifts in the music industry over the last 50 years:

The artists have gotten better looking but the music's gotten worse.

Unfortunately I can neither remember the musician, nor find the quote online, and the friend doesn't recall now either.

I'm guessing the quote has gone through some Chinese whispers and might look quite different to what originally was said, but I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with an expression of similar sentiment being made by a famous musician?

Beatles' member George Harrison famously said something similar when complaining about modern music (the below quote specifically referred to the Spice Girls):

The good thing about them is that you can look at them with the sound turned down.

Interestingly enough, George Harrison seems to have dismissed U2 and the Spice Girls in the same breath in that interview. While the Spice Girls were a predictably brief pop-culture sensation, U2 was already 20 years old at that time, and is still going strong 20 years later.
