I was in Brussels this week-end and heard some music from a violin. Since then, I'm going crazy trying to identify the song. I made a poor voice recording of myself singing it.

  • I think it comes from a huge movie or TV Show
  • Something like:

    1. Game of Thrones
    2. Lord of the ring
    3. Gladiator

But I can't find it. Here is the voice recording, sorry for your ears: https://vocaroo.com/i/s1DmxIuWAKD6

That's the "The Gael", the main theme to the movie The Last of the Mohicans (one of my own all-time favorite movie themes, despite never having watched the movie). The theme is presented in several different forms in the soundtrack. The melody you're looking for can be heard right around 2:25.

The song predates the movie, and can be heard in its original form here. It was apparently commissioned for a documentary about the search for the Loch Ness monster. Interestingly enough, the melody line isn't really in there, just the harmonic structure.

(As to why a movie called "The Last of the Mohicans" has a Celtic theme song and Caucasian main character, your guess is as good as mine.)

  • Thank you very much. That was indeed this song, well done! I know now where I first heard this song. It was in the "I AM A CHAMPIONS" inspirational speech video: youtube.com/watch?v=yX39J_YyKbs
