My friend inherited a mandolin - there is no visible inscription but family lore has it that it is about 100 years old and came from Austria. Does anyone know where we could find someone that can help us learn more about this instrument?
This looks like a mixture of Cypriot Laouto and Greek Bouzouki. Both of these instruments have 8 strings in pairs of 2. The shape of the instrument reminds more of the Laouto but the way the strings end at the bottom of the instrument reminds more of the Bouzouki.
I have seen a few guitars from Cyprus with those silver-colored flowers so it could be from Cyprus.
