Lately, I've been learning "Fantasy on themes from dance melodies by Matvey Blanter" (Фантазия на темы танцевальных мелодий М. Блантера), a song written by Alexander Tsfasman. I'm interested in identifying the songs adapted in the piece.

So far, all I've been able to identify is "Do not be sad" (Грустить не надо) (about 2:29 to 3:37 in the video), but I'm not very familiar with Matvey Blanter's work.

Any idea when the piece was written ? a lot of the "themes" sound very like dance music, which would put them in the earlier part of Blanter's career. If you have the stamina, here is a list (in Russian) of Blanter's compositions. Other pages have links to mp3s of the songs – Angst Nov 19 '19 at 17:22

Tsfasman was active from the 1930s to the 1960s, which makes this rather hard to pin down. The sheet music I have is from 1977, which is after Tsfasman's death, so that puts a hard cap on it I suppose. This person says it's from 1947 but doesn't give a source. – WiJaMa Nov 19 '19 at 23:07

By the way, I've updated the question and question details with a different title for the song based on the sheet music and other information I've looked at. – WiJaMa Nov 19 '19 at 23:14

just saying - I'm glad folk ask questions like this - I had never heard of either Blanter or Tsfasman, or any Russian jazz from this time before this, so it's good to find something new – Angst Nov 23 '19 at 15:55
