I've been trying to remember/find this song for several years now. I don't have much to go on, but I'll share what I can remember...

  • I believe the artist was black.
  • I believe the color red was on the cover art (could have been album or single cover).
  • The concept of the song was relating to pay day and how awesome that is.
  • The genre I believe was pop-y, but might have had small elements of rap to it.
  • It was quite upbeat in musicality. However, I don't remember if the lyrics had any pessimistic connotation relating to bill paying or anything or if it was just excitement to be able to have some cash.
  • When I heard it, I believe it was relatively new. It definitely would have been before 2015 and I'm thinking it would have been after 2010, but that's not a guarantee.
  • I heard the song online. It might have had some association with the free iTunes single of the week, but I don't think it WAS the free iTunes single because then I would have downloaded it. Maybe it was featured on Spotify or something? Could have been youtube?

I know it's not much to go on. I hope someone can help. Thank you in advance!

Lunch Money Lewis' "Bills" is a good match for style and timeframe, but you said it wasn't about paying bills. Bone Thugs "First of Tha Month" is about payday, but it's an older song, and definitely closer to rap. Dec 2 '19 at 18:43
  • Omg!! It's Bills! I'm so happy I could kiss you! If you would like to repost as an answer, I'll happily mark it as correct. :)

LunchMoney Lewis' quirky 2015 hit "Bills" is a match for style, description of singer, time period, and general subject matter. It's more about paying bills than getting paid, which doesn't quite match your description. It is, however, very musically upbeat, which is why you might remember it as being more gleeful than the actual lyrics.

(Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony's 1995 hit "1st of Tha Month" is specifically about payday, but the style is more hip-hop, and the timeframe doesn't match.)

  • Thanks for reading between the lines of my faulty memory! This is perfect!

I thought of it immediately when I read your question, but then I was a little thrown off when you said it WASN'T about paying bills :D However memory makes fools of all of us, right? :D Dec 2 '19 at 19:57
